In yesterday’s USDA Crop Report, scattered showers fell throughout the state last week with 4.5 days on average suitable for field work around the state. Last week’s statewide average temperature was 76.6 degrees, 4.5 degrees above normal. Illinois’ average precipitation from last week was 1.40 inches of rain, which was four tenths of an inch (0.40) above normal. As of Sunday, both the state’s corn crop and soybean crop are rated nearly 80% good to excellent with 15% to 20% of both crops rated in fair condition. Statewide farmers report 30% of Illinois’ winter wheat crop has been harvested with most of the wheat crop in fairly good condition. : Farmers in our ten county area report much the same as the local corn and soybean crops are mostly in good to excellent condition. Farmers are reminded to continue thinking “safety first” as the farm season rolls along.
