(SPRINGFIELD) The USDA has released the Illinois Crop Production Report for winter wheat. The harvested area in 2018 is forecast at 510,000 acres, up 9% from the previous year. The winter wheat yield is forecast at 75 bushels per acre, down 1 bushel from 2017. Production is forecast at 38.3 million bushels, 7% above the previous year. As of this past Sunday, only 1% of Illinois’ winter wheat had been harvested as many areas have been hampered by recent rains. Farmers are reminded to be safe while harvesting.
