(NEWTON) The City of Newton is among fourteen (14) recipients of statewide housing grants as funding was announced by the Illinois Department of Commerce & Economic Opportunity late last week. Newton will receive $495,253 to help improve housing and rehabilitate and retrofit properties for those with low to moderate incomes. The objective of the state-administered funds is to provide safe, sanitary, and affordable living conditions. Other downstate recipients include Marshall ($496,548), Hillsboro ($370,000), Salem ($363,244), West Frankfort ($450,000), Herrin ($500,000), Zeigler ($450,000), and Williamson County ($368,550). The fourteen projects across the state involves a total of $6 million in federal funding.
(NEWTON) The City of Newton’s City-Wide Clean Up is scheduled for this coming Friday, from 8:00 to 4:00, and Saturday, from 7:00 to 3:00. Dumpsters will be located in the alley behind the Newton City Hall, please enter the alley on Morgan Street and exit on Jourdan Street, simply follow the signs.
